Global Information Systems (GIS) is data visualization to solve and analyze specific spatial problems on global and local scales.
The maps represent data of total sediment, sediment quality, and fine fraction percentages of lead in the sediment which are geolocated to core locations of Sydney's Middle Harbour. Here, Lead (Pb) was the main element I looked at although for a complete understanding of the workings of sediment contamination, I also plotted data of Zinc, Chromium, Iron, Aluminum and others. The different scales allow for different views of features within the area that may affect the levels of Lead within the area.
After looking at the GIS representations of the space, we can see that the southwestern area of Middle Harbor has the highest fine fraction an total Lead concentration in the sediment. This can be caused by natural, physical or human processes.
